Pranayama

Prana, a Sanskrit word meaning breath, is a term used in many Hindu teachings. Especially in meditation and exercises where body awareness comes to the fore such as tantra, tai chi, yoga, and in holistic teachings, the concept of prana is often used.

Pranayama is the name given to the breathing techniques practiced in yoga. “Prana” means life energy, “Yama” means controlling.

Thanks to effective rebreathing techniques, respiratory capacity improves, the nervous system is balanced, and the source of stress-induced disorders is targeted. Thus, the doors of mental, physical, and spiritual healing are opened.

The literal meaning of pranayama is to transform/expand the pranic energy in the body. It is commonly known as a breathing technique which combines regular breathing and exhaling. It is true that the level of prana (energy) in the body increases through pranayama, but it is not limited to this.

Prana is a life-giving energy that is more subtle than oxygen and is ubiquitous. In Pranayama, special breathing exercises are used to support this vital force.

The way we live deeply influences pranic forces. Our activities, sleep, nutrition, thought, and senses all affect our Prana. Irregularity, randomness, and confusion in lifestyle consume pranic energy and lead to pranic blockages. That's why we feel tired and exhausted from time to time. The depletion of pranic energy in our bodies leads to diseases of organs and muscles. Pranayama exercises strengthen these forces and balance the five pranas in the body. Pranayama is a science and practice that takes a person to the spiritual dimension.
